Almost ashamed we aren't going to single payer

While I of course support the President, and want to see change happen to the healthcare industry, I am wondering why the right things didn't happen. Democrats in this country played the health care legislation in a weak way. They set the bar low, and now the American people will suffer. Instead of starting the push for health care reform as 'Single Payer is the only option' and then compromising from the progressive, socialist realm that America is drifting towards, Democrats started in this limbo position, not in the middle, but somewhere in between single payer and Germany's public/private system. No, scratch that, the Democrats set the bar in between the free market nightmare side and a very weak very of Germany's system that relies on and utilizes the private industry too much.

The Republicans, having experience with trying to scare Americans, set the bar as far right as they could, in their favor as much as they could. And they succeeded. Any health care that isn't free market enterprise or capitalism based is some crazy liberal shit that isn't good for America. They've been playing that game for decades; set the bar as far right as you can and everything looks liberal. Well, unfortunately for them, America is drifting to the left naturally(as in on it's own), and Republicans are getting left behind to revel in their 'Great American Awakening' and Reagan values.

Question: Who do these people worship more? Reagan or their God? The Almighty God or the Almighty Dollar? I ask this, because there is another question that makes this dichotomy an issue:

Question 2: How does capitalism and free market fit with Christian values?

There is no answer to the second question. Because they don't fit. That's reality. But not a reality Reaganites live in. They have created their own reality and they refuse to step out of their own reality to help other address real problems in our country. Instead of ever thinking to come together with others who feel differently, they consider those who disagree with them 'enemies'. Literally. That's a problem in a democracy such as ours. It is a threat to it. Think Civil War.

I also love watching US Chamber of Commerce commercials trying to scare Americans against health care reform on every other commercial broadcast on cable television. Yeeeeshh.... the bill including a public option is going to be so conservative a solution why are they against it with billions of dollars in ads? Gosh, why didn't the President just push progressive values? Republicans and big business are going to push against it anyways. Republicans are always sure to take America and put it on it's heels with conservative Republican GOP agenda crap every time they control the White House, why aren't WE when we needed it the most? I sincerely hope the President figures all this out and starts to fight for his base. I really want to see another 4 years, instead of a loss of 4 years with a crazy white person in office. Truf!

Believe me, if these conservatives don't lighten their values up and start to consider the poor and minorities in this country, we will have a second Civil War that will be much bloodier and worse than the first. It very well could resemble a French Revolution. The poor versus the privileged.

And to top it off, the privileged DO NOT FEEL OR AGREE that they are privileged in any way, so they do not see a need to change this. Unless they do, like I said I fear for the future of the country. And odds are they won't. Practically guaranteed.
